This week was a short week of supervised practice. I finished my staff relief at the hospital on Monday and Tuesday before travelling to Minnesota for my birthday weekend. At this point, there’s just a couple more weeks left of spring semester! To catch up with my previous clinical experiences, check out:

In order to maintain patient confidentiality and privacy, I’m being deliberately vague when blogging about where my rotation is and the patients I’m seeing. You can find a more detailed explanation of this in my Week 18 post.
Here’s what my week looked like:
Monday:
A surprisingly calm day considering it’s a Monday… I had half a dozen patients to see and then we all went out for lunch to celebrate (belated) RD day! After lunch, I had to quickly finish charting so that I could leave early for my night class. At class this week we learned about oncology nutrition. Our guest speaker was fantastic, and it was an extremely interesting topic to learn about.
Tuesday:
My last day of staff relief and last day of clinicals! It was a bittersweet day all around. Obviously, I’m excited to move on to the next chapter of my internship. At the same time, though I’ve actually been at the same place for a few months now so I’ve built relationships and really become part of the team here. It wasn’t even a busy day to keep my mind occupied, I actually ended up leaving earlier because we had so few patients to see. :P
Weekend:
My weekend actually started on Wednesday since I didn’t have supervised practice scheduled for the rest of the week. I drove to Minnesota on Wednesday to spend the long weekend with my family and Spencer. It was also my birthday weekend, so that was nice timing! We watched “A Quiet Place” in theaters which was really good, ate at Benihana, and played games. Of course, I still had work to do throughout the weekend since the semester isn’t over yet, but it was nice to get to spend more time with family (especially on my birthday). In true Minnesota fashion, it snowed a foot on my birthday and then just wouldn’t quit so my drive back to Illinois on Sunday was a little snowy in places, but overall the roads were good.
Next week, I’ll be attending advocacy day and will start my dialysis rotation. Until then!
