Happy Holidays! It’s been a busy week in Minnesota getting ready for spending Christmas with family.
On Monday, I drove to my aunt and uncle’s house to meet their new puppy, Tessa. She’s a rescue from the Midwest Animal Rescue & Services (MARS) here in Minnesota. They aren’t sure exactly which breeds are in her (her dad is unknown). Personally, I think her face looks a lot like a Saint Bernard, but her mom is a smaller dog so that’s unlikely. :P
Spencer and I went to see “Star Wars: The Last Jedi” in theaters on Wednesday. I thought it was very good, though definitely a bit long. I ended up seeing it again on Friday with my parents and uncle which was nice because I caught a few more things in the movie. I’m not sure if I want to see it again any time soon though. :P That’s a lot of movie to sit through, and when you know what’s going to happen next it’s not quite as exciting.
I did a lot of cooking and baking this week as well. It’s been really nice to actually have time to cook since I’ve been on break. I love cooking generally, though when I have a million other things to do it’s hard to enjoy it quite as much.
I spent an afternoon baking cookies to give as Christmas gifts, and dog treats as well. I’ve been making cookies and dog treats for Christmas gifts for several years now–that’s what happens when you’re a broke student, you find ways to make cheap gifts that people still love. My mom had started a batch of peanut blossom cookies earlier that she wasn’t able to finish, so I finished those off as well during my baking spree.
Maggie and I went on a nice, long winter walk with Spencer too. We’ve been taking advantage of the above-zero temps to go on walks–it’s much less fun once the temps dip below zero. Luckily, during the week it wasn’t too cold–the weekend was frigid though. Anybody else dealing with subzero temps now?
Zach, my older brother, came over Thursday night after work. We all played a fun game, Machi Koro. Essentially, you roll dice to get coins and build things. You win once you’ve built all four of your main buildings. It’s a pretty quick game, so we managed to get through several games and all won at least once.
Saturday morning, we all drove to my grandparent’s house for Christmas. My parents met in high school, so all of my grandparents live in the same city. It’s nice because then I’m always able to see both sides of my family for most holidays. We had a very nice Christmas with way too much food, and lots of fun games and conversation. My mom’s siblings all have dogs as well, so we had a house with five dogs for the weekend. Anybody else have a family full of dogs?
I hope everyone had a warm, safe holiday weekend. I’ll leave you with this cute picture Spencer took of me and Tessa.
