Hookom on Health Big Updates + First Birthday

I am so excited to share my big news with all of you–after 5 years, it’s finally official, and I’m so grateful to be on this journey with you…

first birthday

Tuesday, August 21, 2018 officially marked the first birthday of Hookom on Health.  When I created the blog a year ago, my intention was really just to start something.  It helped me keep friends and family updated on my crazy life, and build some blogging skills.  My first year goals were to write at least one post per week. That’s it. If people wanted to read it, wonderful, but I didn’t have specific viewership goals.  That said, I’m beyond excited and humbled by the international traffic Hookom on Health has gathered over the past year. I realize that a post like this might only really be interesting to me, but in case you like statistics a little too, here are some of my favorite of the past year:

Over the past year:
  • I wrote 59 (as of the one year mark) blog posts for Hookom on Health (that’s over 1 per week!) thus crushing my writing goal.
  • Hookom on Health was visited by readers in almost a dozen different countries, including: Norway, Ireland, India, Egypt, Greece, Lithuania, Spain, China, Canada, and the United Arab Emirates.
  • The most popular post on Hookom on Health was “How to Choose a Dietetic Internship” followed closely by “Before the Beginning” (a recap of my undergrad dietetics experience), “SNAP Challenge Recap”, and “FNCE 2017 Recap”.

Appropriately, shortly after Hookom on Health’s first birthday, I passed my RD Exam!  It feels so indescribably amazing to finally be able to say that I’m a dietitian. Let the job hunt commence!  In the meantime, however, I’m in the process of giving the blog a makeover. I’m also creating new, professional social media accounts which will gradually become more and more active as my time allows.

If you’re looking for another nutrition expert to follow, my accounts are as follows:
  • Facebook page (@HookomOnHealth): recipes, links to recent blog posts and updates, nutrition and food news
  • Twitter (@HookomOnHealth): links to recent blog posts, nutrition and food news, short and to-the-point expert nutrition and food advice/tips
  • Instagram (@HookomOnHealth): food photos, links to recent recipes and blog posts, cooking tips, expert nutrition information on a variety of topics, more personal look into my eating and exercise habits, Q&A on nutrition topics you want to know more about
  • Pinterest (@HookomOnHealth): recipes, links to nutrition-focused blog posts, recipes I like from other creators
  • Youtube (@HookomOnHealth): video versions of recipes, conversations about nutrition topics, reviews of common fad diets and food documentaries
  • Twitch (@HookomOnHealth): live cooking streams ←-actual start date for streams, TBA

Actual content posted on these accounts may change over time as I figure out what works best for me and my viewers.  As of yet, I have not figured out how I want to incorporate my knowledge as a Certified Personal Trainer into my social media accounts either.  Once I figure that out, you may see more fitness-related content as well. We’ll see–I’d love to have you on this journey with me!

Finally, thanks for being here.  I’m excited to expand my content and join the other Registered Dietitian Nutritionists on social media spreading evidence-based nutrition information!
