Happy New Year! I hope everyone had a warm, safe, happy end to 2017 and start to 2018. I had a pretty chill (literally–it’s been well below freezing) week trying out a few restaurants and getting together with some friends.
The first couple of days after Christmas were pretty calm for me. It was well below zero all week, so no long walks for Maggie. :( She wasn’t too thrilled about going outside for even small periods of time though, so I think she understood. I’m definitely looking forward to temps being above zero again.
On Friday, my parents and I went to The Tipsy Chicken. It’s a new restaurant in Elk River that prides itself on serving primarily organic, scratch-made dishes.
I wanted to try their chicken pot pie, but by the time we got there they were out for the night. Instead, I went with their root vegetable pasta. Both their drinks and food were delicious, and the atmosphere was cute with all the farm accents. I would definitely go again, though maybe not by myself because it’s a little out of my budget price-wise.
We went out for lunch on Saturday too, this time with Spencer. There used to be a delicious Mongolian barbeque place in Maple Grove that was my go-to favorite. It closed a couple of years ago though, and a Thai place, Hong Thai, moved in. We finally got around to trying it, and I’m glad we did! I ordered stir-fried broccoli with carrots, snow peas, and chicken. I’m always a little nervous about Thai food since it can be really spicy and I have zero tolerance for spice (that Scandinavian heritage, I tell ya). Here, they add spiciness based on your preference though, which was nice! The food was very good, and, while I’m sad that my favorite restaurant closed, I’m glad that at least another tasty restaurant moved in.
Saturday night, Spencer and I went out to Sociable Cider Werks in Minneapolis to meet up with my childhood bestfriend. She moved out to Washington over the summer, so it was very nice to get to see her again and catch up. I’m also a big fan of cider, and Sociable has a nice atmosphere to chat with friends. I can’t say I’m too disappointed though about having to make a trip out to Washington in the future to visit her. ;)
Our New Year’s Eve was pretty chill as well. Spencer’s been coming down with a pretty nasty cold, so we stayed in and watched Netflix. It’s so freezing out that I wasn’t feeling too up for going out anywhere anyway. We had pizza and watched a couple episodes of “Black Mirror”. I hadn’t seen any of the show before, but I’m intrigued now and will definitely be watching the rest of it.
I hope everyone is starting off 2018 with positive vibes. Thank you so much to all of you that have supported “Hookom on Health” in 2017. I’m very excited to see where this blog will take me in 2018!
