Voting + Exciting Updates – A Week in the Life

Welcome back!  The snow has officially hit Minnesota–no more nice fall weather for us…  I even had to dig out my winter boots and coat which was an endeavor! Since I’ve moved a couple times in the past year a lot of my stuff is stored in boxes right now.  I did a pretty good job labeling some boxes, but of course not the one that had my winter stuff in it! I’ve officially found all my sweaters, wool socks, and most of my winter outdoor wear though, so that’s at least a relief.  We’ve been eating a lot of soup lately…all my recipe inspiration right now is for soups–go figure! It’s also my preferred food when it’s so cold out though. In any case, I hope you love soup even half as much as I do because I’m going to be posting a lot of soup recipes between now and the end of the year!

We started off the week with, you guessed it, soup!  I put the finishing touches on my chickpea noodle soup (<—which you can now find on the blog).  It’s a great healthy comfort food recipe that was perfect for meatless Monday!

Tuesday was, of course, election day here in the United States.  I hope all of you got out there to vote! I was able to go in the middle of the day, so the lines weren’t too bad.  It was snowing on my way to the polls, however, which made the roads a little slippery. After voting, Spencer and I did some video shoots for my YouTube channel (more on this later in this post, so keep reading!).  We’ve been slacking a little bit when it comes to trying to eat more fish…  We had salmon for supper Tuesday night though, so hopefully we’ll get back on track!

We forgot to cancel our Blue Apron order for this week…again.  So our delivery showed up on Wednesday and we made our first Blue Apron dish Wednesday night.  It was a spicy shrimp dish over couscous with shredded carrots. Very yummy!

On Thursday, Spencer finished designing my Hookom on Health logo!  You can see it up at the top of your screen over the blueberry picture.  It’s also the cover image for all of my social media accounts now, so if you follow me on any of those you’ll see it there now too!  The design is imperfectly perfect, which I think fits with my brand a lot better than some picture-perfect logo. I’m in love with it, and I hope you like it too!  I also tested my turkey barley soup again on Thursday, and put the finishing touches on it. You’ll be seeing that recipe on the blog the day after Thanksgiving, so if you’re preemptively trying to find ideas to use up leftover turkey, keep an eye out for that!  I enjoyed the leftovers for lunches all weekend.

Friday was a very exciting day because my first YouTube video was officially posted!  This process of shooting, editing, etc. videos has had a STEEP learning curve for me. It’s been fun, but simultaneously stressful.  Since I’m brand new at the whole video creation game, I’m trying hard to step away from my perfectionist tendencies. I’m trying to focus on the progress I’m making rather than creating perfect videos.  If I wait for all my videos to be perfect, I’ll never release any of them, and that can’t help anyone, so imperfection is where it’s at! My first video is a short intro video about who I am and what kind of content you’ll be able to find on my channel in the coming weeks/months.  If you’re intrigued and are looking for another way to get nutrition/fitness/health content, go ahead and subscribe to the Hookom on Health YouTube channel so you’ll be the first to know when a new video is posted!

Friday night, my mom and I went to see “Bohemian Rhapsody” in theaters.  I thought it was an incredible movie with lots of emotional twists and turns.  Highly recommend if you’re a fan of Queen!

I spent a good chunk of my weekend writing future blog posts, and scheduling social media posts.  Maggie and I also went for some walks in the snow (which she absolutely loved). With the holiday season fast approaching, I’m trying my best to get content pre-scheduled. Then, I can enjoy my holidays with family more and spend less time in front of my computer!  Baby steps!
